Daytona's tri-oval circuit stretches across a 2.5-mile expanse, encompassing four specified corners that boast impressive 31-degree banking. However, as one traverses the start-finish zone nestled within the tri-oval segment adorned with grandstands, the banking gradually eases to a modest 18 degrees.
The Daytona 500 consists of 200 laps, which take four hours to complete around the track. This particular track is part of a trio of racing circuits, namely Talladega Superspeedway and Atlanta Motor Speedway. These tracks are commonly known as drafting tracks, where cars strategically position themselves in a line to take advantage of a speed increase similar to the slipstream.
Given Daytona's location along the Florida shore, rain is uncommon at the 500 because it takes place in February. Long-term projections are generally incorrect due to the tropical climate.
The upcoming weather update brings disappointing tidings. On Saturday, it is expected to be 97% heavy rain, while on Sunday, the forecast appears equally gloomy, with a 75% chance of daytime rain and intermittent showers in the evening. If the rain persists, there is a possibility that the race may need to be conducted late into the night, illuminated by floodlights.
